Humidifier

A compact humidifier concept that responds to changing indoor comfort while reducing the friction of frequent refilling.

Compact humidifier concept

BACKGROUND / DESIGN OPPORTUNITY

Indoor comfort is not a fixed humidity setting.

Comfortable humidity changes with temperature, so the indoor environment needs to be adjusted dynamically. At the same time, around half of users report that frequent refilling reduces their willingness to use a humidifier.

Relationship between operative temperature, humidity ratio, and relative humidity

Dynamic

Temperature changes the comfortable humidity range. A single fixed output cannot maintain comfort throughout the day.

≈ 50%

Around half of users feel that frequent water refilling lowers their intention to keep using a humidifier.

Design challenge: maintain an adaptive comfort range while making water replenishment less frequent and less disruptive.

DESIGN OPPORTUNITY / CLOSED LOOP

Turn changing humidity into a reusable water cycle.

By sensing indoor temperature and humidity, the system can automatically switch between humidifying, standby, and dehumidifying modes. During high-humidity periods, moisture is collected from the air and stored for later humidification, reducing the frequency of manual refilling.

01

Humidify

Release stored water when indoor air falls below the target comfort range.

02

Standby

Pause output when temperature and humidity remain within the comfortable range.

03

Recover

Condense excess moisture during high-humidity periods and return it to the reservoir.

SENSE → RESPOND → RECOVER WATER → REUSE

INTERNAL STRUCTURE / EXPLODED VIEW

One body, two-way moisture control.

The exploded view reveals how the water reservoir, atomisation components, sensing electronics, and airflow structure are integrated into a compact cylindrical body.

OPERATING STATES / INTERACTIVE

Switch the airflow, not the appliance.

Use the two-state control to compare how the same internal system reverses its moisture strategy as indoor conditions change.

Humidifying mode

01 / Humidify

Humidifying mode

Dry indoor air is drawn into the system and released with added moisture to restore the target comfort range.
